About
Rivertown Presbyterian
Come thirsty.
Drink Deeply. Love Greatly. We desire to be providentially
gathered Christ-followers who embrace the riches of the Historic Christian Faith, embody the life-changing love of Jesus Christ
and joyfully demonstrate that love in Hillsborough, the surrounding community, and around the world to the glory of God and
the joy of His people. Where do you find water for your soul? Jesus
gave an answer one October day in Jerusalem: “On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus
stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me,
as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'”
We believe that you do not have to live with a dehydrated heart. Wherever you are on your spiritual
journey - whether you are spiritually skeptical or mildly curious about Christianity, or whether you are already a committed
follower of Jesus - we invite you to come thirsty, drink deeply, and love greatly. Let Christ be the water
for your soul.
Our Core Values Christianity
means community in and through Jesus Christ. We are the “body of Christ.” Jesus
came not only to save individuals but to create a new community. It is by God’s grace that we are
privileged to live in such a visible fellowship with other Christians. Therefore, our community values are as follows:
God-Exalting Community:
We believe that God created man to know and worship him and to do so joyfully. It
is our desire to delight in God above all other things, and by doing so, to display his supreme beauty and worth in the circles
of influence where He has placed us (Ps. 16:5; Neh. 8:10; Acts 20:24).
Biblical Community: We embrace the Historic Christian
Faith as it is revealed in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and beautifully expressed in the Westminster
Confession of Faith. We desire to demonstrate how the Gospel changes every aspect of a person’s life
– spiritually, socially, culturally (2 Cor. 5:17; Rev. 21:5).
Joyful
Community: We believe that
the body of Christ (the church) is all one in Christ Jesus (Gal. 3:28). In Christ, we are reconciled to
God and to one another. The walls of race, class, gender, and age are broken down. As
such, we are being built together as a beautiful expression of God’s glory (1 Pet. 2:4-5). Therefore,
it is our desire to confirm to the watching world the beauty of love, the beauty of Christ, the holiness of God and the joy
of His people.
Welcoming
& Influential Community: We desire to be a welcoming community, open to the
skeptic, the seeker, the new convert and the struggling Christian. We aim to meet the spiritual, physical and social needs
of the people around us in practical ways and to share together in the life of Christ. It is our
desire to emulate Christ in both word and deed (Matthew 4:23; 9:35 and Acts 10:38) in our city.
Missional Community: We hold
that people without the gospel are without hope, because only the gospel can free them from their sin (see Acts 26:16-18).
Missions is utterly essential in the life of a loving church. Until the second coming of Christ,
we must assume that there are sheep outside the fold (see John 10:16). Therefore, we must pray, give, go,
and make disciples both at home and abroad (Mat. 28:19)!
